Madison Pepper is a UK based artist who employs black and white photography to investigate autonomy, metamorphosis, and the phenomenology of the body. She utlisises the camera as tool for documenting movement and performance, she explores the body’s interaction with imposed structures and the surrounding space. Her work questions whether the body is ever truly autonomous or constantly shaped by external forces.
Her recent practise has looked into the tension between natural and unnatural forms, capturing moments where the body resists, moulds, or adpats to its environemnt. In the past, she has examined movement within a space, drawing from dance photography to document fluidity and motion, which establishes a collaboration between photographer and model. Currently, her work takes a more sculptural approach, emphasising physical constraints and the body’s response to them. Working with digital photography, she embraces its urgency to capture fast - paced interactions.
Madison has exhibited with the Aberrations collective at The Avenue and BAD Space in Bournemouth and is preparing for an upcoming final exhibition at Copeland Gallery, London. Alongside her artistic practice, she has undertaken paid commisions, further expanding her engagement with photography across different contexts.
